What is minimalism? And what does it have to do with body care?

We love the definition by The Minimalists: "Minimalism is a tool to rid yourself of life’s excess in favor of focusing on what’s important—so you can find happiness, fulfillment, and freedom." In the case of Natural Landing products, it is about saying "Hey, my goal is healthy, moisturized, fresh-smelling skin. What do I need to achieve that?" It is being purposeful and informed when choosing body care products - choosing only to put ingredients on your skin that help you achieve that goal.

What is a minimalist body product?

A minimalist body care product is a product that has only the necessary ingredients to be effective. Most cosmetics and body care products are the result of chemistry and marketing. They essentially work together to get you to spend money on things you don't need to achieve your actual goal of moisturized, healthy, fresh-smelling skin. Adding emulsifiers and alcohol to lotion/body butter does not help you achieve this goal. These ingredients can actually dry out skin more. Adding artificial scents and colors to your skin does not help you achieve this goal. These ingredients are not natural and do nothing to moisturize your skin. Spending $80+ on a face cream does not help you achieve this goal. Face creams are often mostly water with ingredients added to artificially create an experience that marketers say you need (e.g. "a slippery feel"). Read more on the Why Choose Natural Landing? page.

Can I use the products on children?

Yes! All of the ingredients are safe for children and babies. However, we recommended using the fragrance-free version. While our "Just a Bit of Lavender" products only utilize a minimal dilution of lavender essential oil, there is too much conflicting information out there on what dilution is safe for kids. The fragrance-free versions contain no essential oils. Perfect on children as an all-over body moisturizer, for red noses and cheeks, and in the diaper area.

What are some other uses for the After-Shower Body Butter?

The body butter is called After-Shower Body Butter, but it is actually a balm/lotion/butter that has many uses!! Use it as instructed after a shower, or use it as a:

  • Facial moisturizer - Apply a little bit after the shower just as you would any other part of your skin. You do not need a special lotion just for your face.
  • For sore/red noses and cheeks - Do your kids have red cheeks from the cold or from continually wiping runny noses? Put some one before bed and every time before venturing out in the cold
  • Hair balm - The body butter will work to hold down flyaways and smooth out the appearance of your hair. Apply a small amount while hair is still wet and let air dry - or - apply a little bit to the ends of dry hair to keep flyaways down
  • Lip balm - Works perfect on chapped lips. It's a softer version of our regular lip balm
  • Diaper cream - A little red in the diaper area? The body butter is gentle enough and soothing for little butts. Apply a small amount to clean skin after a diaper change and before bed.
  • Foot cream - Apply a small amount to feet before bed and slip into socks for smooth and moisturized feet in the morning!

Are Natural Landing products organic?

Natural Landing uses organic coconut oil, organic arrowroot powder, organic shea butter, and organic peppermint oil. The lavender essential oil, baking soda, jojoba oil, and beeswax are all-natural, clean, and sourced from top suppliers who commit to quality.

Are your products gluten free?

We do not add any gluten-containing ingredients to our products. We use certified gluten-free powders (baking soda and arrowroot powder), since they are the most likely ingredients to be contaminated with gluten at their production facility. While it is still very unlikely, we have chosen to source Certified Gluten- Free arrowroot powder and baking soda as a precaution.

How do I use the deodorant?

Scoop a pea-sized amount onto your finger and rub under each arm. The deodorant will melt and spread evenly using the heat from your body. Important: Make sure to cover the entire under arm area.

How do I use the body butter?

After-shower body butter is activated by the water on your skin. After showering and while your skin is still wet, apply a thin layer with your fingertips. A little goes a long way!  Then, pat your skin dry with a towel to remove the excess water.

How do I use the eye makeup remover?

Shake container vigorously! Pour or squeeze a small amount onto a cotton ball or cotton pad and gently wipe eye makeup away. Repeat if necessary.

Is it gross to touch your armpits?

While most people are used to using a stick to apply deodorant, it is not necessary! Your fingers do a better job at application and can ensure the deodorant is applied to all the nooks and crannies. Plus, we don't have to add unnecessary ingredients to make the deodorant more solid just for the sake of application.

Will I still sweat if I use a natural deodorant?

You might. Our deodorant does not contain aluminum or any other antiperspirant. You may still sweat (which is completely natural and good for you!!), but there will be no odor. If you have never used natural deodorant before you may find it takes some time for your pits to become unclogged and adjust to being more natural. And you may find that you don't sweat as much as you think!

Why are the products in plastic jars? Isn't that bad?

Natural Landing weighed the pros and cons of plastic vs. glass containers. We ultimately decided to use plastic at this time because of the weight. The containers will be shipped to a production site and then shipped out to the final customer. Every extra pound of weight on a plane requires more fuel to be burned.  While each container is small, it adds up and ultimately creates more emissions. Aviation (and shipping in general) is one of the biggest contributors to emissions on the planet! The plastic containers are lightweight, won't break when falling on the bathroom floor, and is both recyclable and reusable. Check out the blog post for ideas on reusing the jars (COMING SOON!).
